Cold Weather Protocol for Ski Training
Think it is too cold to ski?  Check the Marmot website to see what the temperature is at the hill by 8:30 am. There are often inversions, which means it can be warmer up at the hill than at lower elevations.

If the forecast is for below -20C, start time is automatically pushed to 10:30 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m. if the weather is still too cold for training the HEAD COACH for each division will send an e-mail calling for cancellation for training for that day.  If you do NOT receive an e-mail, we are going ahead with training at the later time of 10:30 a.m.

K1 and K2 go up to train, unless otherwise notified.  You gotta be tough at the K level

E-mails will come from:

Marek and Brent to inform K1 & K2 racers

Patrice Fortin to inform Nancy Greene Ski League Racers

 Mike will  inform Fast Track.

Cameron Mahler Accepts Award at AB Alpine AGM
Cameron Mahler wins the Cary Mullen Character Award

The Jasper Ski Team is proud to announce that Cameron Mahler was awarded the Cary Mullen Character Award. This award is given to young athletes who display the Character of a Champion, defined by 4C's: Courage, Commitment, Confidence and Camaraderie.

Alex Rayner's nomination was read out at the awards:
"Cam has finished his 2nd year in K2 and for as long as I have known him (going on 6 years), demonstrated not only a passion and skill for skiing but a true love of the Alpine Racing life style.  He consistently comes to training with a smile and is always friendly and encouraging to all athletes.  Be they his K2 peers or the youngest Nancy Greene Racer.  Coming from a small club, Cam has forged friendships and relationships with many other racers and coaches from other clubs.  Sometimes the competitiveness of racing can hinder cross club friendships but not with a guy like Cam.

I recently enjoyed a day of free skiing with Cam and a group of our racers aged 9-12.  Cam acted as the unofficial guide/coach and we skied all over Marmot Basin.  He consistently listened to his group, provided options and input and more over conducted a safe afternoon of free skiing that was a lot of fun.  The racers he was with look up to him and there was a true connection.  Should Cam not continue as an athlete in racing I would encourage him to look to coaching.  He is quality, and I hope he stays involved with Alpine Racing on some level.

Congratulations Cameron!
